Ma’an: the Authority of Social Contribution
An entity of the government of Abu Dhabi’s, the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an mobilises funding to support initiatives in sectors including health, education, environment, social, and infrastructure. It receives small - and large - donations from businesses, foundations, and individuals, which is channels to local organisations delivering community programming. Ma'an also creates volunteering opportunities, runs an incubator to help promoting social enterprises scale their work, and supports businesses to develop effective CSR strategies.

Programmes
Ma'an education
During 2023, Dhs 9.3m went towards education-related initiatives. These included: a financial literacy programmes; tuition fee payment for people on low-incomes; food waste initiatives in schools; free laptops for people on low incomes; and urban farm projects. Six schools and nearly 5,000 students benefitted and Ma'an worked with 10 local partners.
Ma'an environmental and infrastructure
During 2023, Dhs 12.7m of money raised by Ma'an was spent on communitu environment projects ranging from new bus shelters and rest areas for delivery drivers, to beach and park clean-ups, new playgrounds, and various COP28 initiatives. Over the year, nine community parks were established, and 5,000 mangroves were planted.
Ma'an health sector
During 2023, Dhs28.05m went towards health-related initiatives. These included: a mobile dental clinic for blue-collar workers; establishing a dialysis centre for people on a low income; counselling and support for divorced parents; 100 cleft lip surgeries; health insurance for 2,614 orphans and poor people, and 30 cancer treatments.

Ma'an social incubator
Ma'an social incubator (MSI) is designed to support the next wave of social entrepreneurs through providing funding, networking, mentorship and more. Successful social enterprises incubated by Ma'an include Circa Biotech, Clairco, Darbco, and Manhat.
Ma'an social sector
During 2023, Dhs 41.4m was allocated to social sector projects. These ranged from suppporting orpans and families on low-incomes, to skilling people of determination, sustaining seniors, encouraging traditional Emirati crafts, and helping young people into work. These programmes focussed on young people, women, and the elderly.
