Kamel Lazaar Foundation

The Kamel Lazaar Foundation for Art and Culture is dedicated to promoting cultural vitality and diversity in the MENA region. Through research, publications, exhibitions, and educational programs, the foundation supports artists and fosters artistic dialogue. It maintains an extensive contemporary art collection, hosts online platforms for art exchange, and organises events like Jaou and Future Lab Tunisia. Additionally, it operates B7L9, an independent art station, and produces specialised publications to document and showcase contemporary art from the region.

Programmes

  • Contemporary Arab art and culture projects

    The foundation initiates, curates, and collaborates on projects across contemporary Arab art and culture, as well as Tunisian heritage preservation.

  • Fellowship Programme

    Through fellowship, the foundation seeks to commission works, on an invite-only basis, which may or may not result in an actual object or installation.

  • Grants Programme

    The grants programme supports cultural and artistic initiatives across the MENA region, with a particular focus on Tunisia. The foundation selects projects within the following categories: visual arts, heritage (Tunisia), music and performing arts, and cultural and civic education - supporting up to two projects per category each year.

  • Knowledge Production

    The foundation contributes to knowledge production by publishing educational resources on art, culture, and heritage for both children and adults. Its initiatives include the online platform Ibraaz, which features critical and academic texts on the arts in the MENA region.

  • Visual Art

    The foundation maintains a growing collection of over 1,300 visual modern and contemporary artworks from the MENA region, spanning various mediums.
