The role of the SDGs to support orphans

Leveraging best practice

More than 5.5 million children in the Middle East and North Africa face challenges related to the loss of parental care. Many of these children live under difficult socio-economic conditions, exacerbated by gaps in institutional care quality and social stigma. These challenges necessitate integrated programs that connect the pressing needs of these children with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sanad, an Egyptian nonprofit organisation providing innovative hands-on solutions in the alternative care sector, is hosting regional conference in a bid to unify efforts and share experiences among governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector to support children deprived of parental care.

The event aims to enhance regional cooperation to develop sustainable solutions ensuring the healthy and social development of these children, aligning with the 2030 SDG vision. With an aim of bringing together 250  participants, the conference will feature practical proposals, best practices, and discussions on future partnerships to consolidate efforts.

Youth deprived of parental care will also participate, offering innovative solutions to develop alternative care and aftercare systems by sharing their experiences and success stories. The conference will include keynote sessions, panel discussions, interactive workshops, and networking events.
